Racing With A Friend: The Super Stocks Run On A Friday Night!

My green Charger 383 against Shanon’s yellow Nova Yenko Deuce

Well, I’m happy to say that the first race at Drag City after laying down all the turf for the carnival went very well! That’s important, since it verified that there was no harmful debris left on the track from the construction or-even more important-that all the material was properly adhered so that no additional debris was raised by the racing action! That’s success all around, and made for a great night when my buddy Shanon dropped by for the first time in ages!

I haven’t seen much of Shanon lately primarily because I haven’t seen much of anyone lately due to my insane work schedule, and Shanon himself has been scarce since he’s been recovering from rotator cuff surgery which can’t be fun! But since he’s still off work due to his recovery, he dropped by “Spider Acres” (my colloquial name for my crib in north Denver) to use his “good arm” to work the trigger at Drag City! We made the most of it, especially since that Friday was a particularly awful and distressing day at work for your humble blogger!

As always when we get together to run our fleet of Auto World Ultra-G stockers, it was all very informal, with some fun background music and videos on the jumbotron and lots of ribbing as we raced. Shanon is getting better; he gives me a real run for my money now, and he has some very fast cars! I probably won a couple more races than he did, but only a couple; he bested me on several occasions!

All the equipment functioned perfectly: the track, the timer, the controllers, even the computer that played the music and displayed the results. Just goes to show that all the time, effort, and money I’ve spent has been well used, and all the false starts and frustrations I’ve experienced with some of these elements paid off in the end! I race my custom fleets alone against the clock, but racing with a friend is a damn good time!

  1. That is great news that the track is ok and the care you took paid off. Now you’ll know what to do on other sections! I’m glad you finally had some time to race and that your friend is recovering! That surgery isn’t have been really hard to get over. Looks like a fun time was had by all!
