Peeps make the world go round (and often bring it to a stop, too) so for my layout, the figures are almost as important an element as the cars. Lately the crowds at the track have been growing astronomically; must be all those cool videos of the racing action the track is producing that’s bringing them in!
In this post, we’ll take a quick spin around the track to meet some of the new denizens and see what they’re up to!
A lot of activity around the Mooneyes tent, the most popular vendor kiosk at the track; lined up along this stretch of track, some spectators are pushing against the rules and getting awfully close to the action in order to get that perfect photo! Spectators include “Stumpy”, the poor guy who lost both his hands in a tragic accident at Drag City Mk. II last year when he wandered onto the track after visiting the Outlaw Garage and got mowed down by a Ford Maverick. One hopes he has learned his lesson and won’t be performing an encore at the new track!LEFT: More people streaming in from the entrance and making their way to the automaker’s vendor displays as well RIGHT: Never mind the new cars in the vendor tents; right behind the tents, these guys are right up on the track cheering on the racers!
Over at the Inspection Station…
The Gulf racing team has unloaded another Ford; a race-prepped ’67 Mustang joins the ’65 Galaxie and the G.T. 40
And now to the paddock area, always buzzing with excitement…
A second Gulf team has brought a ’67 Camaro for the Trans-Am class and a ferocious Porsche 917K for the sports racing car class, both passed inspection and arrive at the paddock ready to run, drawing admiring crowds. Meanwhile, a track magistrate checks off items on his clipboard while supervising the finishing touches of number painting on the side of this lightweight Jaguar E-Type.
As for the action in the camping area, well, what happens here stays here…we hope!

These figures are great and there is a lot of action and poses like we used to see real people doing at the car shows. Poor Stumpy and it looks like the campground has some excitement too. I love the guys prepping the cars, great detail and looks terrific!

It looks like the guy in the gold shirt wearing a shirt that matches his car’s paint! 🙂
