A Thunderjet Thanksgiving: In 2022, What Are You Thankful For?

Your humble blogger @ home on Thanksgiving Day, hook tool in hand to move freshly painted T-Jet bodies around!

There are myriad reasons for gloom this holiday season; our disastrous excuse for national leadership and the attendant state of the economy, the wars and the engineered shortages-none of which are necessary; the skyrocketing price of everything, and what appear to be the final nails in the coffin of what we once quaintly called “The American Dream.” Yet to brood on that on this day is not what this day is about, so I’m choosing instead to be grateful, and to bear in mind all the things to be grateful for: my family in Arizona and Nevada, my friends in California and here in Colorado; my furnace, and the job that pays me the wages I need to pay for the gas to keep it on; and the space and the time to enjoy my toys: all of these things are gifts, and all are to be appreciated.

This year my Thanksgiving started off right: I got to spend a rare night with Patrick, and had a peaceful breakfast with him at home before he had to leave to earn his own wages. I then filled the house with the sounds of an awesome vintage Thanksgiving music playlist, and descended to my space in the toy room to continue work on some T-jet customizations (finally spraying the clear coat on the bodies I’ve been working on, post on that coming soon!) before warming up the gas oven to cook some ham and cinnamon apples and scalloped taters for T-giving dinner. For this I was joined by a good friend from the neighborhood who brought a homemade pumpkin pie, and we killed a bottle of good wine before capping the night with “bedwarmers” and a movie.

And only the night before I assembled another awesome addition to the Muscle Car “Overstock” contingent, which is becoming almost a “fleet” of its own: yes, after 2 years I finally acquired a second example of the excellent 1970 Camaro by Dash Motorsports, this one in a color I had never seen before: white with gold SS stripes. It was such a beauty and offered at such a good price that I couldn’t pass it up, and it got completed with a used but very high performance Ultra G and a set of gold-tone “Dotz” wheels from Vincent and fat silicone tires from Road Race Replicas. The wheelbase is off a hair due to the slightly increased length of the Ultra G chassis, but it still looks awesome, and it runs around the track awesome, too!

The newest addition to the Muscle Car “Overstock” is “The Crystal Queen,” this white and gold 1970 Camaro SS, body by Dash Motorsports

All of this is meaningful; all of it matters. When the final days come, these will be remembered as the good times. I hope you are having some good times of your own on this day, and I hope you also find much to grateful for!

HAVE FUN EATING, DRINKING, AND RACING!

  1. Here in Canada, we celebrated Thanksgiving on October, 10th, this year. I am also thankful for a job that pays the bills and a place that does not offer much space but protects us from the -25 degrees that we are yet to experience this winter. As for my hobby, I love blogging and I intend to keep on doing it. I know you and I have a different view of politics and for me, it will be heartbreaking to see America being governed by Trump once again. I lived in the US for 7 years and I hold the country dear in my heart. I wish all the good things for you and your family.

    1. I don’t think any of us need worry about the US being governed by Trump again. As for what the future holds…I have to constantly remind myself never to say “how much worse can things get.”
