Well dear readers, I find myself having to apologize again for a long absence from my blog. I’ve been laying very low for the last few weeks for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are personal. Some are professional: I’ve just finished working three 50+ hour weeks in a row trying to meet the deadline of a massive and expensive project, a complete network redesign and expansion and installation of an enterprise-scope security system for a very well-heeled customer with over 13 sites. But in addition to all that, the main reason I’ve been scarce is one I think we can all relate too: the insanity going on in the world around us these last few weeks has reached a pitch we haven’t seen since the “lockdown hell” of 2020! With the implosion of a presidential administration, the exposure of a truly terrifying degree of incompetence and corruption at the highest levels of our government, an assassination attempt that seems almost certainly to have been encouraged if not outright orchestrated by “the regime,” and the utter collapse of credibility of the corporate media for the fourth time in as many years, the whirlwild going on around us has just been a little too much for me to take! Many times I’ve promised to do my best to avoid divisive issues on this blog, but with the madness of the last few weeks, that has been essentially impossible. Therefore, it seemed best to keep quiet for a while.

This is the first weekend in a month that I haven’t been in the office or the shop working, so this Saturday morning when I woke up, I forced myself to turn away from the news and turn on vintage cartoons instead, and thus I’m finding myself feeling a little better…well enough to go down to the toy room and play for the first time in many days. And since insanity is in the air, it seemed apropos to spend a Saturday with the insanity of the high performance Aurora “Tuff Ones,” the most challenging of my slot cars to drive and keep on the track.

This weekend is being spent on the adjacent HO Highway rather than at Drag City raceway, where I’m throwing the track in full “race mode,” which is to say “self drive,” and using the Parma triggers rather than the old school Aurora rheostats to challenge myself to keep these old, fast, and traction-free cars on the track for as many laps as possible!
For a few terrible days I must have forgotten how much fun this is, but I’m back at it, keeping myself entertained while hiding in the basement in an attempt to decompress and keep my head together. The joy this escapism brings me is something I highly recommend for anyone with an interest in cars…and watching some of this action, I am pleased to say I have some really nice ones! This is quite a collection I’ve built, and I’m very happy with it.

Toys can be a tremendous comfort to us in difficult times. If you haven’t already, get yourself a slot track and get in on this action. You won’t regret it!!!
