DIORAMA DETAILS: The Inspection Station

It’s pre-race day inspection time, and man, is this place crowded! Cars of all types and sizes are streaming in to unload from their trailers and trucks to get the seal of approval from watchful race officials. There’s straightline dragsters and gassers, Trans-Am cars, Can-Am cars, muscle cars, sports cars and sports-racing cars, and their teams of drivers, owners, and mechanics jamming nearly every inch of space around the inspection station. If it looks like a haphazzard mess, that’s because it is! Fortunately there’s a lot of staff at the station, some even doing inspections outside the walls of the station itself to help speed things along, but there’s still a lot to watch out for-and a lot to step over-with teams of mechanics with their tools out everywhere trying frantically to tighten that last nut (or hide that special cheat!) before their number is called!

Racers arrive in droves! Some have hefty corporate sponsorship and expensive rigs; others are privateers bringing their own cars in on trailers.
“I remember you, you tried this same trick last year!”
“Hmmmm….no, I don’t think that modification is allowed.”
“Is it lunchtime yet?”
“Where the hell are we supposed to unload? There’s no space left!”
“‘Ay! Who taught you how to park a trailer?”
“Well, this place looks like one giant clusterf**k!”

  1. A beehive of activity and you can feel the excitement in the air! The inspection building looks great and those figures are coming out well. The picture captions are terrific.
