You wanna go to the Devil but you don’t like the flames
Blood on Satan’s Claw is my middle name
Because I’m mean
I’m a mean machine
Yeah, I gotta be mean
Just a bad human being
Listen to me now…~ The Cramps
Gonna start the reveal on what I got on my latest jaunt across the plains on my winter road trip! Here’s the first 2 of a group of 6, one from Model Motoring and one from MEV, both in the theme of black. Feast your eyes, slot-heads…

Welp, anyone who ever checks out this blog and knows my taste isn’t gonna be surprised that I’ve added this one to my collection! Only question is, what took so long? The answer, of course, is price: these flamed “Fiddy-Fives” are pricey these days! Pretty easy to see why, eh? And this one is MINT! It even sat on its ©2000 Model Motoring chassis which I’m sure was just as it was when it came out of the clamshell. That wasn’t good enough to me, though; nope, it performed like dooky so I swapped that chassis over to another car that could justify being slow to mount this one on what turned out to be a very old closed rivet chassis I had tuned to the hilt, including a new set of high-carbon brushes and a pair of mega-powerful blue/white Johnny Lightning field magnets.

And it goes without saying that she also got a set of those chrome reverse 5-lugs, which seem like they were made for this car! With a set of Jel Claws on the rear, she runs as good as she looks, and she looks mighty good! A “Mean Machine” indeed!

Not to be outdone…

Our friends @ MEV step in again with another car that no one else will make in this scale! I couldn’t resist this ’63 Mercury Marauder, a car that was rare when it was new and is almost non-existent today. I can’t even remember the last time I saw a real one, but these sloping-rear window coupes are big beautiful cars, and this one looks awesome in sinister black.

It needed some work, though; sitting on an early open rivet chassis, this thing did not want to run, and had some serious wear and corrosion and-oddly-a badly bent rear axle that needed replacing; especially strange since the wheels and tires were undamaged. With thorough cleaning and polishing and oiling I brought it back, though, and now it runs just fine, smooth and silent like a big cruiser should! These sleek 2-door “Big M’s” from this era are my favorite FoMoCo products of the 60’s after Mustangs, and since they’ve been terribly neglected in scale, it’s a kick to have one on my slot track!

Not a bad kick-off to the presentation of the latest additions to The Road Crew, eh? Ah, but stay tuned, dear readers, as there is more to come, because…ya know…
Like WOW, you picked up some great cars. These are fantastic! It goes without saying that 55 is sexy as hell and I like the Mercury too. It is awesome they make models of these other models! It’s amazing how you customize and repair these guys, you have become a true artist at performance and aesthetics!
