Meet the Fleet – Sportscars: Shelby GT350 Mustang

  • BODY: Road Race Replicas
  • WHEELS: Vincent
  • TIRES: Road Race Replicas

Egad, another Mustang?! Yep, and this is an older one that’s been in the fleet since the early days, since wayyyy back in the early summer of 2020! I thought it would be cool to profile another of the original Shelby GT350’s after introducing the recently re-built and re-added gold one. This one, you will note, is a “street version” of the GT350 with a chrome front bumper and grille, but it’s still fully race-prepped and ready to go! Mounted on a light brown Ultra G chassis which nicely complements the Sapphire Blue body, this was the first car I ever fitted with the Vincent version of the venerable American Racing Torque Thrust wheels. The tires I got with these early orders of Vincent wheels were garbage so I fitted it with the high-quality low profile silicones from Road Race Replicas (it wouldn’t be until later, when I started buying directly from the manufacturer in Germany, that I would get the decent quality tires Vincent provides with their wheels, although I still think nothing beats the Road Race Replicas Lo-Pros, which I use where ever I can).

This car originally carried racing number 16, when the white one-the first Shelby I bought-was fitted with number 15. Later, when the white version was renumbered 55, the #16 transferred to another Shelby, the green Cobra Daytona coupe, so the #15 transferred to this car, however since this creates a conflict with another car-and since I’ve recently had 3 numbers vacated by the decision to start the Trans Am fleet, this one is likely to be renumbered again very soon.

This car is a hot performer: very fast, very capable, often a winner against cars that should be faster. Christened “Crusher,” this heavyweight sports racer is piloted by Sagar “SPARK” Simpson, an experienced driver who tempers his natural competitive nature with the care and respect only a seasoned driver can bring to the circuit.

  1. The proportions on this model look really good. So the Road Race Replica’s and Aurora bodies are your favorites. I like how you can take some of these older cars and update and adapt them. It seems like that as with the renumbering, is just like a real racing fleet, you do have a REAL racing fleet!
