Road Crew Expansion: Not A Ford In Sight!

A while ago I pointed out the obvious link between Aurora and Ford; more than half of Aurora’s slot cars from their early years were models of Ford cars, so when looking at the “Road Crew”, my collection of vintage original and original-style T-Jets, there are bound to be many cars bearing the blue oval. But not this time! This round of Road Crew Expansion is certified “Ford-free” as we look at the latest additions from the likes of Model Motoring and Dash Motorsports…

’67 Chevelle SS in flaming red
If I had known that the red version of this body would be such a deep and rich crimson I would have bought one years ago! As it is this is my 5th copy of this body, the 2nd in the Road Crew, but the first in this color! I am extremely happy with this brand new, never-mounted body, which now sits on a standard but low mileage and fast open-rivet NOS original chassis and wears those awesome chrome 5-lug wheels from MEV that I now can’t get any more. Good thing I had a set for this beauty!
’67 Camaro RS in rally green
OK, so “Rally Green” wasn’t a 1967 color! Well, it should have been because look how cool it is on this slot car! This is another brand new Model Motoring body purchased for a fair price from one of my favorite vendors, and it now sits on an original Tuff Ones chassis that has needed more work than most of my salvage jobs. I’ve finally got it running right, and so it deserved a good body!
’65 Pontiac GTO in 2-tone metallic gray
When I first bought this Dash body I was pretty sure it was moulded in color because I’ve seen gray versions before. It was only after I bought it that I realized the seller had painted it. I think the deal is that the roof was painted a different shade of gray metallic and then the whole body was coated with a metallic clear coat giving it this “shimmering” affect. I thought it was a little much at first but its grown on me; I suppose if Liberace ever drove a GTO, this is what it might look like. Incidentally, my very last set of those chrome MEV 5-lugs went onto this car’s rebuilt Tuff Ones chassis!
’67 Plymouth GTX in white
And lastly we switch from GM to Mopar, and from finished cars to one of the dwindling supply of “kits.” I bought this as an unfinished car and finished it just enough, running the chrome pen and the black and red paint pens around it and gracing it with a set of black Ultra-cal racing stripes. It got mounted on my remaining red “T-Dash” chassis, making it “all Dash Motorsports,” and then got a set of MEV 5-lugs moulded in white to give it that tough “NASCAR” look. Came out pretty well I think, and its fast as stink!

So you see dear readers, even in the midst of “Bidenflation” there’s still some deals to be had and still some cars to build! Its more of a stretch than it used to be, but like I’ve said before: if there’s any money at all, there’s money for toys!
