The Redemption Run

THE FINAL BATTLE about to begin!
The track jumbo tron welcomes all

In keeping with Drag City’s attempts to build good sportsmanship through second chances, the track recently held a half-fleet round for sports cars that were eliminated from Heat 1 of the recently run “Zombie Apocalypse” 64-car Sports Car challenge. 32 competitors were eligible for a second shot at victory under the same rules of the previous race: 5 laps, run ‘til you finish (no “Crash And Burn”), fastest race time advances against the next fastest car in the proceeding round.

The action seemed even faster and more furious than the big race, as the drivers might have thought they had even more to prove! There were several surprises too, as some come-from-behinds crept up to challenge age old rivals!

In the end, however, the final race included a familiar favorite. Apparently non-plussed by being shut out at the Zombie Apocalypse, Sherman “Throttlestop” Steele wasn’t about to fall back again, and roared to victory once more with his Chevy 427-powered Cheetah! The diminutive bright yellow #18 machine aptly named “King Of The Hill” is the winningest car in the history of Drag City, with more tournament trophies than any other, and here she was in the winner’s circle again! Steele just barely edged out Federico “Slingshot” Santana in “Demeter,” the white #90 Ferrari 206S Dino.

3rd position went to Dean “Quickshift” Quinten in “Terminator,” the #2 Corvette Grand Sport. Quinten has been a bride’s maid at DC on numerous occasions and is getting closer all the time to a tournament win, but 3rd place in a field this competitive is still a feat to be proud of!

As “Throttlestop” takes home his 10th Tournament trophy, one can only wonder who the next aspiring gearhead will be to go gunning for “The King Of The Hill!”
