As promised, my recently restarted die-cast collector’s “recapture” project, launched way back in 2016, continues apace, and new arrivals are beginning to show up in my parcel vault, which I often refer to as my “gift box” b/c I love that when I come home from work and unlock the lid, I get presents! 😀

My latest replacements for cars I lost in childhood include one I just mentioned in my last post; the Mattel “Speed Machines” repress of the Hot Wheels “American Victory.” I have no idea what became of this car; I know I had it with my other “Speed Machines” packed in an old shoebox that I recently found, but somehow it vanished and I was never able to find it, so here’s its replacement.
This one I picked up is probably in about the same condition as the one I lost-maybe a little better, but looking at it now I kinda wish I’d dug a little deeper to buy a better one; at first I thought this was good enough but I admit I really like this car; it has a cool classic shape to it that reminds me a little of the “Phantom Racer’s” car from that awesome classic ep of Scooby Doo, not to mention it has a cool name!

Then again, this isn’t the Hot Wheels American Victory! Don’t call it a Hot Wheels! It’s a “Speed Machine!” Whatever you call it, it still looks cool. What I’ll probably do next is get a Redline version of the original car!

Another one I got cheap is this Corgi Junior model: the “Rough Terrain Truck,” an odd little made up truck-at least, I think its made up, although I suppose it could be based on some obscure European pseudo-amphibious all-terrain thing. A couple of pieces of the remains of my first one are still in the junk box I’ve been carrying around most of my life.
Its goofy looking but its also kinda cute in a way, and since I found this almost pristine copy for a mere $6, I decided to recapture this one too because, like I promised earlier, I won’t rest until I get them ALL back! In some cases that’s going to be an expensive proposition, but in these two cases, I got off easy.

But more are on the way! There’s another Hot Wheels coming, and a mint and boxed Matchbox from the days of Lesney’s final death throes, so stay tuned, dear readers! The action never stops at Drag City!
Oh wow, that racer brings back the ghost of a memory. I think I had that model but I’m wanting to say it was a shade of red, at least something similar though not in the green. Cool stuff and love hearing about these!
