So last Saturday and Sunday was the 4th weekend in a row with snow and temps in the teens! Man, you would think it’s, like, winter around here or something! Fortunately I had friends drop by, including my buddy Patrick who spent most of the weekend with me as well as a couple of others who stopped in, so there was food, fun, and music all around…and of course, a lot of messes to clean up in the kitchen! Such is life, and I am thankful for it! But, what did I do in slot-land during this latest snowy interlude?

Well, I didn’t have enough free time to run a tournament, but thanks to the delivery of the most recent order of my previously impossible to find (until I knew where to look, that is!) 5-lug chrome wheels for the Aurora originals, I decided to go address a years-long source of dissatisfaction in The Road Crew now that “the wheel crisis” has been flipped on its head and it is the stock plain disc wheels, rather than the 5-lugs, that now appear impossible to obtain.

In addition to the outrageous price I recently paid at auction for 40 such wheels on ePay, I had maybe 6 (a set and half, in other words) left over from a previous purchase, but I now have 3 more sets, since I’ve gone back to put 5-lugs on 3 of my Road Crew cars that should have originally had them, and would have, had the supply of the 5-lugs been as plentiful 2 years ago as it suddenly now is! 3 Model Motoring cars, my purple Willys coupe and the pair of ’70 Chevelle’s SS’s are now dressed up more appropriately than they were, with their original stock wheels having been carefully removed with the puller and stored for later reuse on other, more “sedate” cars.

This gave me a perfect opportunity to make a quickie “pan and scan” video of what I call “the muscley side of The Road Crew.” Most of these cars-though not all-are equipped with the 5-lugs wheels and Jel Claws tires on the rear as seems appropriate for their high-performance.

Another thing I noticed as I rummaged through my parts bin was this little jar of red goo which is the oil Aurora sold with the Hop-Ups kits back in the day; we can easily assume this jar is 50+ years old, so I won’t be using it on any of my cars, but it’s cool that I picked this little artificat of the past up in a “junk lot” I bought some time ago…I just wish the label hadn’t fallen off!
So this post is a short little “interlude” of limited interest to y’all, no doubt, but its my little “Captain’s Log” entry into how I spent the latest snowy weekend “Thunderjetting.” So now its looking like the weekday evenings to come will be dedicated to that “Group C” Muscle Car battle I know you’re all anxiously awaiting, and the results are surely coming soon, race fans!
Looks like a fantastic time and love the updates. That Group C race will be exciting and looking forward to seeing the line up!
