Diorama Detail Hunting: A trip to COLORADO DIECAST

Greetings race fans, ‘tis I, your humble blogger from Drag City Raceway, with a long awaited new post! So what’s cookin’ at the track of late? Check this out…

Within the last few weeks I was made aware of a store located in Parker, a wealthy suburb south of Denver, that I have never heard of, but should have! When I hit their website I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing: could there actually be a physical “brick and mortar” store entirely devoted to diecast automotive models, and one where the lion’s share of the inventory was 1:64”???

I had to go check it out for myself to see if such a place could actually exist, and so, Sunday morning one of my friends showed up my house early with the intention to check it out with me! So we climbed into his 4-Runner and, with “First Wave”, the 80’s Punk and New Wave station playing on Siris radio (a luxury your humble blogger doesn’t have in his own ride, but its OK, since I have all the records!), we headed down southbound Interstate 25 through “darkest Denver” to see what this place was about, determined to get there shortly after the “opening bell” of 10:00am, since we didn’t want to miss anything!

Located at the inner corner of a tony strip mall, this is a place you would easily miss if you didn’t know what you were looking for, which of course is part of the point!

I’ll let this little video clip do some of the talking for me…

SUNDAY BRUNCH

So, hundreds of dollars poorer, we set out with two bags full of stash, and as if hitting this place wasn’t awesome enough, we found that that “tony suburb” wasn’t too “tony” to have one your HB’s favorite establishments right across the street! What could better top a shopping trip like this than a noon breakfast at the Waffle House, everyone’s favorite Redneck eatery! These establishments are bit thin on the ground in the metro area where your HB resides, and in fact the last time I ate at one was almost 1.5 years ago on my trip to Arkansas!

After wolfing down the best and most reasonably priced bacon, eggs, and hash browns around, we hit the highway to head back up to The Homestead to open up our bags of treasures! As for WHAT, exactly, those treasures are, and how they look at DRAG CITY, well…that’s the subject of the next post! So stay tuned for updates, race fans, and in the meantime, check out this awesome place and make sure to drop by if you’re ever passing through my neck of the woods! It’s the toy store of your li’l gearhead childhood dreams come to life!!!

  1. This looks like a must see event for sure! This must be the same place that my friend Carl who lives in Parker mentioned last time I saw him. He told of a store with an untold wealth of die cast cars that I needed to see. After this post, I absolutely need to pay them a visit!
