Challenging the “Phantom Racer” – Racing Against Drones on the Model Motoring Track

One of the coolest things about the control box for my Model Motoring track that my electrician friend Dale designed for me when he was still with us is the ability to do something I always wanted to do as a kid: challenge a “Phantom Racer!” I did a post about this way back toward the beginning when I blogged about the TCR “slotless slot car” format of the late ‘70s/early ‘80s, a system I never have used in person but that I remember well from the TV commercials that made it look so cool!

The trials and tribulations of challenging the “Phantom Racer!”

This may have made more sense back in 2020 and 2021 when we were still “locked down” during the “scamdemic.” Now that I can race against real people it’s not as essential, but since only a couple of my friends have ever shown any real interest in this hobby, its still nice to have the option of racing against another car without another person! It makes for hours of weekend fun in the toy room, and the challenges involved in both setting this up and staying on the track are what make this old track and these old cars so entertaining!

  1. This is a very cool set up and a great way to remember Dale. This was a terrific idea and I can see hours of fun with this!
