As the horrific lockdowns and travel restrictions of the “scamdemic” begin to fade into memory (though mark my words: we must never forget!) I faced none of the fears I faced in 2021 traveling to Prescott AZ to visit my family for the holidays. Last year I chose to stay at home and spend X-mas with my friend Dale, but since Dale is with the Christmas angels this year, I decided to head back home..which is strange to say, since I myself never lived in AZ, but home is where your family is, so its home to me!

And enjoy myself I did! We had an epic X-mas filled with family and friends and food, and I’m happy to say my favorite gift was an excellent book on Aurora Slot Cars which I read voraciously while there, learning a lot of details and minutiae about the history of our favorite toys that were heretofore unknown to me!

That was a high point, but it was not THE high point: that was spending time with loved ones: although we will always feel the loss of my father, it was awesome being with my mom and sister and her husband and my brother and his wife and her family and friends. It was especially fun visiting the old downtown section of town, today called “Whiskey Row,” with my sister and bro-in-law, which of course included an obligatory glass of mead at the awesome “Superstition Meadery” located in basement of a 120 year old general store! There was also a fabulous dinner at my bro’s haus prepared by his awesome wife and, of course, it can’t be x-mas without some fun with the family dogs as well!

ABOVE: Some great gifts included this Fox body Mustang Hot Wheels, perfect for the 80’s themed diorama around Drag City, as well as a beautiful 1:25 scale ’70 Mustang and a cool commemorative Matchbox Model of Yesteryear
Once I return to Colorado I will also return to my workshop and my track where all kinds of new goodies await, and I will be profiling those with plenty of pictures and video, as well as engaging in some discussion about the book by Thomas Graham. Stay tuned, dear readers: another exciting new year of racing and restoring is just around the corner!
This looks like an absolutely lovely time and holiday Bud, it’s cool that your family to gather and Prescott sure beats the heck out of Farmerville, Louisiana! Lots of great photos and thoughts.
