Well dear readers, the recession-era X-mas of 2022 isn’t going to make your humble blogger’s history books. It was a quiet and uneventful day interacting with family only over the phone across the miles. One of the people I was most hoping to spend the holiday with never made it, but, I had a couple of friends drop by to share some food and cheer, of which I had ample amounts, and for that I was grateful. About the worst thing that happened was USPS not coming through; I had numerous items on order that I was hoping to profile in this post which were supposed to be delivered on the 23rd or 24th but none of them got here in time, so I will have to bring you up to speed on various new builds and the results of new plans and improvements to the track in subsequent posts.

Probably the most interesting occurence was related in no way to slot cars: namely the discovery on the web of a recording originally released in 1947 of The Story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as narrated by Paul Wing. This was a childhood throwback to a tradition my dear departed father started, as my sister and brother and I used to listen to this on a set of 78 RPM records that he had when he was a kid, and it was the very last thing we did on X-mas eve before going to bed to wait for Santa. This provided a misty-eyed blast from the past, and helped make my underwhelming X-mas eve comforting.
One new addition to my T-jet collection that I was able to assemble was interesting: my 3rd 1964 Dodge 330 sedan, and this was a limited edition promo model released under the Popular Mechanics imprint. These were sold at Auto Zone and are quite hard to find, so I was happy to get this rare variation in a rich shade of “lipstick red.” It may never have been a stock color, but it sure looks good, and that raised hood section says “hemi” all over it. I fitted this baby with a set of Vincent chrome reverse wheels and tires and ran it around the track to test it and it ran perfectly, so its ready to race if it ever gets a chance to…not that that’s likely since the muscle car fleet is all overstock now, but a new 48 car case is also on order so I can split the muscle and sports car “overstock fleets” which will give me the excuse I need to just keep on buying and building cars!

After dispatching a couple of work related issues in the morning, the noshing began, as there was no lack of food and drink in the house! Snacks of cashews and chocolate covered macadamia nuts preceded dinner, which consisted of Honey Baked ham, a sweet tater soufflé, fettucine noodles and a cinnamon apple pie with 3 different kinds of wine and cocktails afterward. There were feel-good classics on the TV (Scrooged, 1988), scary ghost stories (Krampus, 2015) and enjoying a gorgeous Colorado sunset from my front yard with some good company rounded it all out.

Nothing earth shattering, but adult X-mases often aren’t. More toys are on the way so there’s more fun to have, and there will be at least a few more X-mases to look forward to in the future.
