NEW BUYS – You Might Not Call Someone “Dandy Dick” Today, but Back in ’69…

Amongst the rarest and most difficult to find Auto World issues are the Release 19 “Legends of the Quarter Mile.” These very seldom come up for sale; in fact, one of them (the blue “Georgia Shaker” Ford Thunderbolt) I have never even seen. Thus, when the “Dandy” Dick Landy ’69 Charger came up for sale at a price I was willing to pay, I grabbed it. I got it from a vendor in NY called “Regression Therapy,” which I think is a really cool name for a toy vendor! Why didn’t I think of that???

Not only is this an accurate recreation of a real car, but in addition to its awesome looks it is exceptionally fast; the chassis is a “coaster” with very little resistance so it just flies down the track, although it is difficult to slow down and thus hard to handle. That’s probably OK, though, because as much as I dislike the concept, I think this one is going to wind up a “shelf queen.” I bought it because it was interesting and rare, but I don’t really have a place for it in any of my racing fleets so there’s not a lot I can do with it.

It sure is cool, though! I admit I would like to get the whole set, including Platt’s Ford and “Grumpy” Jenkins’ Nova, but these usually go for dear prices. But hey, I got a deal on the Dodge, so maybe I’ll get lucky again!

As a bonus, here’s another recent acquisition that is definitely going to remain a shelf queen! I finally got the Charger done in bright blue like Dennis’ car from Christine, from the Release 15 “Silver Screen Machines.” This one is actually not all that hard to find, but its always expensive; I paid a price I thought was reasonable to this one, although it wasn’t cheap, but its factory sealed and going to remain that way. I don’t often do that, but I have so many cars now that I don’t “need” to race these, so I’m content to keep them mint and unused.

All of which makes me wonder: Am I actually becoming a “Serious collector?” :-0

  1. I think that your being a “serious collector” has never been in question! 🙂 With your fine eye and knowledge, you are serious my friend. This is certainly one to keep for the display, it’s a fine model and just having it and being able to look at it whenever you want would be enough for me in this case!
