NEW BUILDS: Camaro on a Budget!

A lot of the cars in my fleet have cost me a lot of money, and it seems like the prices are going up all the time. Even today, though, sometimes you can get a deal…especially when you build your own!

Though not really a new New Build-I put this one together a couple of months ago-it has never been profiled, although it has made appearances in a couple of my more recent videos. This is another copy of the Aurora Model Motoring ’69 Camaro RS/SS; I already have a dark green version of this same body and a slight variation-with open headlights-badged as a Yenko, in orange. Hell, I’m not even all that big of a Camaro fan, but including the ‘67’s, the 68, ‘69’s, and the ’70-72’s with bodies made by Auto World, Dash Motorsports, and Johnny Lightning, in addition to Aurora, I sure have a lot of them! This one was made in such an enticing color combo-something about the bright blue, white and black realy did it for me-that I decided to hit “buy it now” because it was so cheap that I couldn’t pass it up. I kept it that way, too:

  • Body:  $11
  • Chassis:  $15
  • Wheels: $6
  • Axles:    $1.50
  • Tires:     $6
  • Pin:        $1
  • TOTAL: $40.50

Not bad for a vintage Camaro in perfect condition!

Fitted with Chevy Rallye wheels via Vincent and a set of awesome Firestone Wide “O” RWL sidewall tires from Road Race Replicas, this beauty really stands out in the paddock and on the track. And yet, in spite of this, its not part of the racing fleet. Why? Because the fleet is no more than 64 cars, and its full!

Of course, that doesn’t mean it can’t rotate in every now and then! But, before she can run in a tournament, she needs a nickname…

  1. That pricing is great but what I think is most cool is that you did so much work yourself putting that all together. I’m very impressed!
