The ’67 Pontiac GTO is one of the very best of all the Model Motoring bodies. It is correctly proportioned and beautifully detailed and, because of its relatively recent production (relative to the Aurora originals, that is) it is still available at reasonable prices…for now, at least.

As a result, I decided to buy a 4th one even though I already had 3, and this was almost a “scrapper’s buy.” I found it for a low price mounted on a good running original Aurora open-rivet chassis, and bought it with the intention of using the chassis on another car, which I did, leaving me a body to do…what with, exactly?
Well, I didn’t have a plan, but boy was it purty in that shade of bright blue. The previous owner had put a decal of a skull and bony hands on the trunk lid that I was originally planning to remove, but it kind of grew on me, so I decided to keep it. After running through some ideas, I decided to try mounting it on the decent running light brown Ultra-G chassis that had once been under the black ’70 Chevelle called “Night Ranger” which moved over to The Road Crew some time ago. This chassis had never been one of my hottest performers but it was far too good to discard, and it looked pretty slick fitted with Vincent Torque Thrusts I had painted in gold. I thought I’d just see how it looked…

Well, WOW! It looked great! In fact, it looked so good, that I’ve decided to keep it this way! So in this respect this hardly even qualifies as a “build”, more just an assembly of previously built parts into a new form. I like it, though! The decal on the trunk has led to me calling it “Blue Ghost” and it is driven by an upstart called William “Wild In Blue” Wilcox, a name inspired not as much by the car’s color as by an excellent song from Suicide’s 1988 album “A Way of Life.”

Ok, so we have a name…and, now what? No more room in the Muscle Car fleet, so it joins a small but growing number of “extras” that will sit around not doing much of anything until the inspiration strikes to start some new type of tournament. Inspiration has been running a little thin lately and I haven’t been racing much due to the need to spend my time on much less pleasant pursuits, but fortunately I’m still carving out enough space to fix up a few runners like this from time to time.

Now that’s some “drivin’ music” right thar!
Wow is right, this a great car that you put together! I can’t get over the proportions on that and the wheels look terrific with that blue. The Blue Ghost is a fine name! I’m sure that running this will put a smile on your face!
