The Great Zamac Flood – The Die-Cast Overload Continues

As if coordinated, the time change last Sunday was accompanied by a dramatic change in the weather in these here parts. This winter was cold, but unlike last winter-which was more temperate but interminable, dragging on well into late spring-this year came on time, hit hard, and now seems to be retreating, its work done. Its true that this part of the country is notorious for late spring snow-monsters, and we may yet get one, but over the last week the temperatures have soared all the way into the low 70s.

All this reflects on what the future holds, for Drag City, and for me. The sudden death of the plan to relocate to the Ozarks has left me wondering what’s next. There’s no cause for immediate concern – time is passing pleasantly enough – but the ol’ “when in doubt, do nothing” philosophy that has served me so well for so long will eventually run into reality.

And I mention all this because…?

Because-now for probably the 3rd time since I originally posted it-I’m referencing this post again, and pondering about doing a dramatic expansion of the Drag City diorama as diagrammed and described therein. This becomes a more appealing option as my insatiable appetite for 1:64 die-casts is threatening to consume my living space! Now that I have a buddy who’s also been bit hard by the collector bug, I’m having a blast going on “Hot Wheels hunts,” and finding more and more cool stuff all the time! What am I going to do with all these cars???

Of course, that’s the great thing about die-casts: cheap to buy, easy to store, and free to own and insure…so the truth is, I don’t really have anything to worry about…at least, not until it’s time to move! But I don’t want all this cool stuff just sitting in a box forever; I want to display the best of them, and make no mistake about it: I am out of space on the existing layout! I’ve exhausted just about every last inch of the display area around Drag City Raceway, so if I’m going to do these awesome little models justice, I’m going to have to expand.

The full extent of the madness on video…but actually, this isn’t all of it!

Well, time will tell. What seems important for now is that I’m having a good time! I’ll find the room I need, and if I do decide to stay around a while longer, you can bet there’ll be a lot of construction going on at Drag City! In meantime, they just keep stacking up!
