For many of us, Christmas of 2020 isn’t going to wind up in the record books…unless its recorded as exceptionally bad. For me personally, this is the first X-mas I’ve spent without my family; I was able to see a few close friends one-on-one, but when my mother was diagnosed with Wuhan Flu only a day before I was supposed to brave the airport crowds and confines of a plane to go see her, I was marooned. She’s still with us at this writing and it looks like she’s going to pull through, but nothing can make you feel more helpless than to be 1000 miles away from someone you love and unable to do much of anything except make phone calls. It was a miserable end to what has been an unbelievable year. And with most of my friends having their own “socially distanced” gatherings and since the rest of my family also lives out of state, I had few options but to stay at home with my toys.

And there’s where I count my blessings: things could be worse! I live in a spacious house with a yard rather than a cramped apartment or, worse, on the street, and with the comfort of electric power and heat, I’m grateful for what I do have. Thus I spent X-mas Eve and Day building my new track, and running my inaugural tournys for muscle cars and sports cars. It was lonely, but it wasn’t miserable!
Happily, the post is still running; the mail has been pretty remarkable throughout this ordeal, and the fine folks at USPS deserve a hand for helping us through this; I got a package on X-mas eve that allowed me to unwrap and build a car on X-mas day: namely this lovely yellow Maserati, which perfectly completed my little squadron of Maseratis!
Here’s hoping you and your loved ones had some time to spend together this holiday season, and here’s hoping next year will be better.
