The year is 1984. Dallas, Dynasty and The A-Team are the most popular prime-time TV shows, Duran Duran is one of the the hottest bands on FM radio, President Reagan is heading for an historic landslide re-election, and California is still a recognizable part of the United States of America. On this warm day early in the summer, the business district in Wardglenn is getting busier and busier now that Drag City has officially reopened after its 4th major redesign…and the really big weekend-long racing tournaments are starting any day now!

Here’s just a few of the little dramas I’ve been setting up in the the town around the track in the few spare moments I’ve had between putting out fires at work over the last couple of weeks…

“Whatever, man!”
A friendship is looking strained by the breakdown of this hot ’67 Chevy Malibu SS. These 2 buddies were doubtless on their way to the track and stopped at the local hardware store for some sundries only to return to a car that didn’t want to start.

Bummer, dude!
This hot young surfer couple were headed up toward the westbound interstate for a day of sun and fun at the beach when their ’59 Elky surf wagon overheated. Thankfully a couple of mechanics at the local garage along the main road appear happy to help. Hopefully they don’t help themselves…to the surf betty in the bikini! Considering her boyfriend’s physique, they’d best remain professional!

“Will that be a withdrawl, sir?”
A sinister Mercedes-Benz 280SEL lurks behind an old Studebaker work truck waiting in line at the teller window of the 1st National Bank of Wardglenn. The look of this car puts me in the mind of concrete galoshes and violin cases without violins…

The ordinary and the mundane
Just what you would expect at the local grocery store in the early 1980’s; an Olds Vista Cruiser and a Datsun pickup-up truck. No such banalities for the well-heeled family passing by in the Lincoln convertible! In the background a new Mercedes-Benz 300TD in Caledonia Green is just leaving, pulling out cautiously into traffic.

Deal going down?
This older gentleman in a Harvest Gold ’74 Eldorado convertible is having an involved conversation with this young blonde along the side of the motel. I’m sure they must be discussing her qualifications for a job…as to what that job may be, the lady’s attire-or lack thereof-might be a clue!

“Today would be good.”
In the shadow of a palm tree, a young man in coveralls tries to figure out what ails his distressed ’32 Ford hot rod, clearly a survivor from the 1950’s. As you can tell from her body language, his companion is doing everything she can to help!

As always some great stories and you have really set it up well and those pictures speak a thousand words! The back stories are great and I need one of those Sinister Mercedes! I had thought about getting one of those hotel models for the Bates Motel in my layout.
