Last Weekend at the Track: The 64-Pack Sports Car Skirmish – The Preview!

The first full 64-car sports car race was run at Drag City over the weekend of April 3-4. Although still photos can only convey limited excitement, the full video of the event is in production and is liable to be for a while yet. I hope to have it posted by end of the day this Sunday or perhaps the following Monday; in the meantime, here are a few images of the action (all enlargeable, as always, by clicking through the gallery)…

The overall winner was a first-time champion! Tiberius “Typhoon” Von Tripps in the #60 Lola GT Mk VI named “Charlemagne.” A year and a half of tuning, testing, and improving paid off when #60 beat Sherman “Throttlestop” Steele in the almost unbeatable #18 Cheetah, appropriately dubbed “King of the Hill.” In this tournament, the king was dethroned-perhaps temporarily, but even so, winning the first full 64-car tournament on top of beating a 10-time champion must make victory taste twice as sweet for “Team Charlemagne!”

  1. It still amazes me how much work and customization can go into these. You have gotten results! They still sound easier than working on real cars!
