Ever More Fun With The Super Stock Fleet!

It’s “doubles racing” again – the way slot racing was really meant to be – as I add more completely box-stock Auto World T-Jets to my Super Stock fleet to race against my friend Shanon, and recent weeknight adventures at both my house and his house on his very tight and very curvy Tomy AFX track put them to the test! A couple that I built specifically with his track in mind performed awesomely, but a couple of others were disappointing, one being too unstable for this track and the other being too fast!

Too fast? Is that a thing? It most definitely is, and all the more so when you’re racing in a tight space, which is often more challenging than a big track like Drag City. My white ’69 Johnny Lightning Dodge Charger on the red chassis was killer in these tight turns, and the aquamarine ’69 GTO ‘vert was even better, being much faster than the charger but gripping very well with a strong magnet and good redline tires!

A new acquisition, a black ’64 Dodge Polara, didn’t do quite as well, but with the redline tires I added, the car looked so badass that it almost didn’t matter how it performed! In addition to this, I recently added two more Mopars; having recently been watching some cool back-episodes of “Graveyard Carz” on YT, I decided to buy a couple of 2020-edition models from that now-defunct series. Both of these came mounted on the light-brown chassis which were designed to simulate rust; originally seen on the “Barn Find” series, I have mentioned before that these are some of the fastest and best-performing Auto World chassis I’ve bought, and this Charger and Challenger pair were no exception; the Challenger is so fast that there’s no way to handle it on Shanon’s track, and on Drag City Raceway it moves at speed I can barely stay on top of with my eyebulbs! This is surely one of the fastest cars I’ve ever bought, showing again how the “pre-pandemic” cars were of higher quality than the ones they are making now.

Another recent acquisition, a yellow Nova Yenko, did not do well at this night’s race; this baby is going to need some “adjustment,” although since we’re honor-bound to keep these cars completely stock there isn’t a lot I can do with it. A couple of veterans from this fleet, including my yellow ’69 Charger and my bright red-orange ’70 Mustang, did much better.

Still yet to be raced are that Graveyard Carz Charger and my newly re-chassised maroon Buick Riviera! I have those in reserve for our next competition, which should be coming up this weekend at Drag City!

  1. The Graveyard Carz look awesome and is there such a thing as too fast? Looks like some great racing, cars, and friend!
