BANZAI RUNNER III: the 1st FULL FLEET Tournament with the new setup!

“THE FINAL BATTLE” – Ford VS Ferrari!

Though I raced a “half tournament” for Muscle Cars a while ago, this last week was the first time I raced a full 64 car tourney since the DS3 controllers, the power supply and the taps were all in place, so it was fast and furious at the “Banzai Runner III Sports Car Challenge!” A soundtrack of “forgotten” 80’s classics provided by famous LA FM station KROQ scored the action as 64 rare and valuable vintage sports and racing cars took to the tarmac to battle it out. The 3rd installment of the ongoing sports car racing series named after the (again) “forgotten” cheesy movie from 1987 starring Dean Stockwell and Billy Drago, the 60’s met the 80’s head on at 175MPH+ as the spills, chills and thrills continued for days and winnowed a field of 64 down to a battle of only two by Sunday evening!

And it was Ford VS Ferrari for “The Final Battle” as Jonny “Flash” Faulkner in the #13 Ford GT-40 “Alpha” faced off against Arturo “Blaster” Bertolini in “Mephisto,” the gun-metal gray #41 Ferrari 250GT SWB Berlinetta, the first time the Italian-born San Diegan has made it to the finals! It was close, but when the ample amount of smoke cleared it was the American Hero in the “lucky” #13 Ford who won the night.

I have said this before, but I am starting to think about making some changes to the track; it’s a good layout but I’ve been racing on it for nearly 2 years and I’m thinking about “softening” a couple of the turns and I’ve even toyed with the idea of removing the corkscrew. There’s also that notion of just tearing the whole thing up and starting from scratch, which does have its appeal… But summer is just around the corner; normally that would mean a little less racing and little more being out on the world, but with crime and prices the way they now are in “Biden’s America” its more likely than ever that I’ll be spending more time indoors and less on the streets, so its very possible that the long summer nights will lead to a complete revamping of the layout. I guess you’ll have to check in from time to time to find out, since, you know, the action never stops at Drag City!

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!

  1. It sounds like the track work you did with the soldering and all is holding up well after this intense racing. I’m looking forward to hearing about your plans and how things progress there at Drag City. Sadly, I don’t have anything new to report on mine due to other projects but am looking forward to getting back to Harrisonburg hopefully soon.
