NEW BUILDS: Mopar Muscle Madness!

The last thing I needed was another car in the muscle fleet, which is already overstocked. But…this pale “industrial blue” 1964 Dodge 330 by Auto World was just so cool! And it was cheap! When I saw this for sale as a body only at a fire sale price, I didn’t think, I just bought. So I added a chassis and wheels and axles and tires as per usual: a 10 minute build, and look at how good it came out! Can’t beat that, eh?

The chassis is used but it’s a good one that I’ve had stashed away for a while; the wheels are not RRR but Vincent chrome reverses, with a good set of Vincent low profile tires as well. It is totally devoid of decoration, being a low-line sedan, and that’s just as well; it would be a sleeper were it not for the obviously high performance rubber!

Though I have oft referred to this car generically as a “Dodge Polara”, in point of fact the “330” was its own model designation, coming in as the cheapest full sized Dodge for the year. The mid-line model of the same style was called the “440” in spite of the fact that this name did not in any way indicate the presence of a 440 cubic inch engine (most were 318’s) while the Polara was the highest trimmed model of this body series. This blue one is the second copy of this body I have acquired: the gold one is one of the early inductees into my fleet and has been racing hard since early in 2020.

Although I prefer the look of the 1963 model to the ’64, the ’64 is still cool and may be even more rare today than the ’63. Most commonly used as cop cars and fleet vehicles, very few of these cars have survived the cruel march of time; most of the few that have are today fitted with massive engines and function either as full drag cars or street brawlers…just like our newly added example here!

Since I only just assembled this car today I have yet to even come up with the Lore for it; so far she has no nickname, no driver, no details…it’s a blank slate. Maybe that makes it seem more mysterious…and considering this fascinating story about another Dodge 330 alleged to be the most evil car in America, maybe it should stay that way! MwaHaHaHa!!!

Although the above video is rife with errors (the Dodge 330 was not even remotely “one of the largest sedans made” nor was it expensive), its still a fun video to watch.

UPDATE:

  • CAR NAME: “Bone Shaker”
  • DRIVER: Cletus “Catfish” Carter

  1. This is a super cool post and a fascinating story that I hadn’t heard. I recall years ago us reading about various cursed cars. I can’t blame you for buying this and I like the lines of some of the more “mod” early sixties cruisers. I’d take one but you know I have a fondness for Mopars! Some outstanding reading!
